Herself is conducting her newest culinary experiment, both for ourselves and for sale via our KP Ranch Farmers Market booth: "gourmet mustards". This required a significant sacrifice on my part. She snagged two beers from my stash, one a Belgian Wheat Ale and the other (same brewer) a "Midnight Wheat End of the World Ale".

What makes it an End of the World ale? Well... Along with that midnight wheat (whatever that is, still researching) the brewer, Shocktop, used chocolate malt and chilis.

And it is Yummie beer! Oh my yes.

Today is [livejournal.com profile] msbherself's Day!

May there be many more.

Herself is on Etsy!

Follow the link to Carmenetta's Cottage on Etsy! www.etsy.com/shop/carmenetta318

Being done in part because the host for the original site is re-vamping their services and that site will be going away. Also being done because Etsy makes it ever so much easier than the original host to conduct business. Crafts, herbs and spices, assorted other items, go see, pass the word!

Off of work early yesterday, Boss came into the office around 13:00 (an Early Warning about this did get an alert...) to see if we were done with our work for the day. According to Boss, the answer proved Yes across the board. So, we packed up and left.

Today is Thanksgiving Day in the US. A Yank holiday. Hospital gives us the Friday after as a holiday as well, so it's a long weekend. Time to catch up on those things detailed above. Today, as well, time to reflect and be thankful for:

Herself, teh Home Fuzzies, teh Ranch, our home.
Gainful employment, and recent sales from the Ranch
Friends, local and far, seen, spoken, corresponded.
Health. (Last year at this time I knew I'd be a patient at Hospital, divesting myself of Mr. Stone.)

May you also find good things to be thankful for today and all days.

Woke up from dream state sleep when the alarm went off. Do not remember any details from this dream, which is a more normal state of affairs for self. Do, however, still and will for a bit yet feel very groggy, also a normal state of affairs for self when woken from dream state sleep. Rgggnmph? with this.

Coffee helps, so may well go get some more.

Herself much appreciated her Hippie Birdbaths pressie, Season 1 (I believe called Series 1 for my other parts of the world friends) of The Tudors on DVD. This is on Showtime via Sky TV, and while the presentation of the history of HRH Henry VIII of England may be moving through a great deal of poetic/dramatic license, the settings, garb, and other aspects of the production appear to be spot-on examples of historical accuracy.

We enjoyed short ribs for dinner. Mmmmmm, Wellington.

Yes, I believe more coffee is in my near future.

Today is [livejournal.com profile] msbherself's Day! Woohoo!

Sadly, it was celebrated (on this day in history, before Herself's time) with a Very Big Firecracker.

But still, it's Herself's Day! And I've got something for her.

Bit wet yesterday, but dried up for a run into town for groceries and supplies. No dog could go with me on that one, as there were two stops and I'm not eager to leave a dog unattended in a car with groceries. Particularly cheese. Herself and I got sucked into watching The Wild on Sky TV last night; rather fun in a mindless manner.

And a run for feed today, which I could be accompanied by a dog. However, not so much with the happy about the particular feed store as they were nearly out of the cattle feed we use. There are other things about this particular business we've gotten less than satisfied about, mostly involving their feed inventory. It's a long boring story, but it's why we switched to another feed outlet which is also a bit closer to the Ranch. This place, however, isn't open on Sundays, and closes at 13:00 on Saturdays, and well we didn't make it yesterday. Rain, open pickup trucks, and paper feed bags is not the greatest of combinations.

Herself is in pre-event mode, getting ready for a major SCA event called Gulf War (not to be confused with that all-expenses-paid tour of the Persian Gulf region by any means). So I've been sidetracked from other chores to help with pavilion setup, cleanup, and such. Nothing too extreme, though I'd like to get some photographic sorting done this weekend in order to take advantage of a printing sale at the lab I use. Probably will this evening.

Just now, it's about time to go feed the cows, horses, and then the Bros for the evening.

Today's been more of a stay home day than yesterday was. Yesterday we loaded up some things in Forrest NissanPickup and trundled over to Horse Arena for a shire get-together. Herself commited to teaching a couple of classes, in the end only one of those got taught but she also passed on some info related to other items.

The class she taught was beginning mead-brewing, so one of the things we toted with us was her glass 5 gallon carboy, in the cab, on the seat between us. Now, if you've ever ridden in a Nissan pickup, even one with a bench seat as Forrest does rather than bucket seats, you'll know they aren't really designed for three people in the cab. And that carboy occupies about as much territory as a person, at least from the seat up. Shifting was interesting.

But, hey, mead! Well, in about four months. At the class she explained the importance of starting with really clean equipment, clarifying your honey (if necessary, the batch she used was pretty well clarified already but we did it again for the class), starting the yeast mat, then combining it all. We only poured the honey (20 pounds / 10 Kg worth, about 2 - 2.5 gal / 9/5 litres) and some water into the carboy for the class. Call it about 3 gal/10 litres of volume in there. That was enough, in terms of re-loading carboy into the cab.

Ate dinner, came home, found Sargent Smudge BorderCollieBro in with the maternity pen goats, all of them safely herded into a bunch in the middle of the pen. No one hurt, and we may of found some tracks we don't recognise between maternity pen and the hog pen. Got everything settled out, unpacked the minimum i.e. the carboy and yeast mat to the house, added about half the remaining volume of water then the yeast mat, then topped it off at that 5 gallon/ 19 litre mark. The yeastie beasties are contentedly doing their thing now, bubbling away and forcing gas out through the brewing water-lock.

Today it's been laundry, and in between laundry backing up some files on an old laptop which Herself's brother gave her a couple years back, when she started dealing with their mother's estate. It's not quite as old as Venerable Laptop of mine, has a smaller hard drive, and both of them the on-board batteries are toast. However, she wasnts a machine she can take with her to Gulf Wars, since she's going to be doing the Merchant Thing there and wants to give a shot at keeping sales and inventory current on-site.

Thus, first step backup. Which, since this old beast of a machine is running Win 98 with service packs, is interesting. It does not recognise USB drives of any sort (RAM stick, CD Burner, or external HD), does not have an internal CD burner, does have a 3.5" floppy (FLOPPY!?). Fortunately there aren't many data files, and no software we're worried about. I've made copies of most of the data, we've verified that the estate-related Quicken files are already backed up, and now I'm installing an upgrade to Win2K. Upgrade rather than hard-drive reformat because I'll need some hardware drivers to keep things functional, and that means hauling the beast into Hospital or at least determining what drivers and downloading them at Hospital.

Hauling it in is more likely, because Herself tells me the site for Gulf Wars has wireless Internet and she's going to want that. I guess that means getting another anti-virus installation as well, even though this beast won't be cruising the 'Net once it gets back.

First thing to determine, though, is if it will find external USB drives after the upgrade. Then I'll see about backup for the rest of the data files (why yes, I'm paranoid, why do you ask), plus ensure that the external drive works anyway because it's a dinky 4 Gb internal hard drive and I'm sending along a 40 Gb external HD, USB powered, for her data storage.

All this in between doing laundry. Or is it the other way around, doing all this laundry and in between doing this? Oh well, doesn't much matter.

Rain Today

Perhaps not so much as yesterday's forecast, or perhaps it is still early. Don't know.

Yesterday we finished putting in the roof insulation, and put up the first three panels which comprise the ceiling. However, two miscalculations affected this part of the project. The first miscalculation is mine; when I put in the mid-line panels, I got my measurements off for the placement of the holes for the electrical. The way we wired for ceiling lights is to put two electrical outlets up there (one each end of the building). The outlets are not midline, but I made my measurements for the hole cutting as if they were...

Not a major problem. Does effect further cut measurements. This is where the second miscalculation comes in, and this one is Herself's. She only bought six panels. We need nine. So before continuing we need to see if Lowe's (the vendor we purchased from) still has this panel colour/pattern. Then we buy three more panels, and away we go.

We also need to purchase seven panels of cedar chipboard for the west wall, which will be a cedar closet for all that aforementioned garb. The weather report being what it is, I might of gotten the panels this morning and under cover before rain.

Except that we need Herself's flat-bed trailer, which was out at Horserena for an SCA event, and we needed to go collect both the trailer and some of Herself's items still at Horserena. Which we did this morning, after our yearly fasting bloodwork draw at out Family Practice doc's.

So we got back to Ranch and unloaded in time. For rain, not for panel runs. However, tomorrow morning's forecast is much more favourable for panel purchases. So I will go shopping tomorrow morning.

So yesterday after work, I played 'I'm in ur Internetz Steelin ur Bandwidth' with Hospital's connection. Wandered over to GlobalScape's website and looked at the CuteFTP part of the site again. Turns out, they've got older versions available for download. Ah.

Gleefully stole some more bandwidth to download the version of the software I do own (and possess the serial number therefor).

Meanwhile, back at teh Ranch, I then installed same on Herself's PC, inserted the Tab A serial number in the appropriate Slot A, set up the Levy County Fair site, and c'est voila! She is in business.

And for this, I received arroz con pollo salsa for dinner. I is a lucky guy.

Trying to help Herself do some work on the Levy County Fair Association web site; after all it's about a month and a bit until the Levy County Fair. She inherited being the web editor from the developer of the site. Several things going on here:
Yup, several things going on. Oh look, a Cut... )

In case the link above doesn't work, the Levy County Fair website is: http://levycountyfair.com so go check it out.
