madshutterbug: (c)2009 by Myself (Houdini & I)

This past one proved a bit of a funny old year. Less hours spent at Hospital for pay. More hours spent helping make the Ranch work. More hours spent creating and learning how to sell art.

More hours spent with Herself & the Border Collie Bros.

Some of which brought up some unexpected self-image change challenges.

Still, and all, believe I too shall use this one as the New Years Toast:

Here's to the New Year. May it be a damn sight better than the Old Year. (Col. Sherman Potter, MASH 4077)

Just as Herself said over on FB, the roosters here on the Ranch started heralding the day around 04:30-ish. And they are still at it.

Thing is, thing is, listening to the cadence and all, some are hollering "Merry Christmas!" and others are responding "And to you."

Projects

Herself is conducting her newest culinary experiment, both for ourselves and for sale via our KP Ranch Farmers Market booth: "gourmet mustards". This required a significant sacrifice on my part. She snagged two beers from my stash, one a Belgian Wheat Ale and the other (same brewer) a "Midnight Wheat End of the World Ale".

What makes it an End of the World ale? Well... Along with that midnight wheat (whatever that is, still researching) the brewer, Shocktop, used chocolate malt and chilis.

And it is Yummie beer! Oh my yes.

Home again, jiggedy jig jig. Herself & Border Collie Bros greeted. Supper eaten. Quick news, had fun, did well enough in Show, made a small sale. More later.

In one way my two weeks off from Hospital started Friday passed at quitting time. In another way they do not start until tomorrow, as so far each day has been/is a regularly scheduled day off. In either event, not so much a vacation, since I will not be "vacating". At least not until the weekend Oct. 19-21.

I've been getting a bit better using LJs phone app for reading and the occasional post. It is clumsy, yet slowly workable. And, apparently if I don't I shall be totally absent from the Internet and blogging. Trying to decide why this is, since I do own a well-functioning PC, with Internet access. However in the past several months I've turned it on only a couple handfuls of hours.

I know where I am spending that time, and less of it is at Hospital. More of it is on Ranch, not as much in Studio even though Studio is by default on the Ranch. Normally through the summer months here in North Central Baja Jorja I "estivate" by working indoors in the AC. This summer that didn't happen. I spent a good deal of time working on various small projects outdoors.

Life isn't feeling bad, but I am wondering exactly what brings the Balance, and where it is.

Herself has been threatening the vegetation around our magnificent old Twin LiveOak and south of the back deck off Studio 318 for a bit.

Herself: I will unleash weed killer on you Vegetation.
Vegetation: Lalalalalala
Herself: Madshutterbug Blackthumb, what is good in life?
Me: To pull your enemies up by the roots, toss them to the Pit of Composting and hear the lamentations of their seedlings!
Vegetation: ...
Herself: Toldja.

Looking at the work shorts I put on this morning (wearing the past week or so) and telling myself I've probably succeeded at wearing every last hapenny out of them.

The [livejournal.com profile] bordercolliebrs remind me (by bouncing around and not letting me do anything else like even getting my coffee) that today is [livejournal.com profile] lizblackdog's Day. May there be many more. Preferably with Border Collies.

OK. That was fun, more in the vein of F.U.N. and still noticeable... I am not afraid of heights, yet in the past few years find myself being extremely aware while moving about on the roofs around here. We've known for a couple years we are in the ballpark age for a new roof on Big House. Made preliminary investigations last year with a friend who is a roofer.

Couple days ago 17 year old roof sprung a leak. As in, step beyond noticeable. Today I climbed up to clear off leaf debris from our friendly shade oaks and found divots in the roof decking.

Apparently our friendly shade oaks dropped more than leaves. we will need to replace some of the decking as well as new roof.

Squrrl expressed some curiosity hearing my voice coming from out of sight high but no concern at all when leaf debris started flying over his head to land a few feet away from the side of the House. Guess he didn't think I would drop anything on him.

Now our roof has a raincoat at that end, as we've joined many other folk in the area with a Blue Roof. Still waiting to hear back from Roofer Friend, getting other ducks into their row, may also put out inquiries to a couple others on availability to work. Raincoat is better than waterfall. New roof is better than raincoat.

Bros & Hose

Sep. 2nd, 2012 05:13 pm
madshutterbug: (c)2009 by Myself (Default)

Two days of hot, humid, yuck. Good chunk of Outdoor work done, nearly all of it in the shade to avoid the worst of the hot sun. No avoiding the humid. Left salt stains on my shirt yesterday.

At least today the work included fun & even the Bros thought so. Game of Hose (they 'herd' the water stream) to soak them down, then a thorough soaping with anti-flea shampoo. They didn't complain. Maybe because they knew there'd be more Hose to rinse off.

Now one is sleeping on my feet and one on Herselfs feet. Their story is tuckered out from the Hose games. Nothing to do with the thunder out there.
