Not so good, actually, with stomach unsettled and loose bowels. Perhaps I stayed up too late at the party last night. (Home and in bed by midnight.) Perhaps I am dehydrated. Perhaps I ate something not so good. Perhaps simply over work, over stress, over heated. Slow waking up, felt some retching but nothing up and not particularly strong. Until just now (08:02) and yup up it came. That followed a bit of fluids (soda water and a sip of coffee), and a bite of breakfast fruit bar. What came up is significantly more than that, however, so probably leftover contents from the party.

Went back to bed after a bit, slept another two and a half to three hours. Up, finished off my cold cup of coffee as an experiment. Just returned a small part of that to the toilet. Coffee creamer after it's been through the stomach is way less than pleasant.

Went back to bed after that, too. Had thought about heading out for those errands, but the heaving said No. Just got up. Houdini enjoyed it, since we are still experiencing an afternoon thunderstorm. Herself isn't as pleased because it is mostly noise and not so much rain. I'm trying water input again, the soda water which I opened last night because by now it's lost most of the fizz but still has flavour. We'll see what happens.

So far, no bragging, fluids are staying down. Adding soda crackers to the mix...

Before evening Ranch rounds, felt tired and washrag wrung out. After evening Ranch rounds, feel tired, washrag wrung out and light-headed.

I am currently listening to a playlist in Win Media Player, 'Covers'. As in multiple musical pieces covered either by the same or different artists. And that's about all the energy I've got. Still, managed to finish off bashing through the proofs from last by one week Wednesday so a disk will be forthcoming soon for Chelsea and a posting here... somehow.

But not tonight. Tonight, ramen (simple) for dinner, and a hot soak.

Been at a day-long thing today. Can't really call it a meeting. Several different presentations all short. It's called Leadership Conference for the Nursing Dept. leaders/managers. I qualify now. Scary thought, that.

Now, one of the most interesting bits that was announced is ... smoke. Hospital is a major teaching hospital, affiliated (not part of) a major university and the medical sciences center of that university. Hospital is building a new structure (we open, in fact, in 100 days) across the Road from current structure. Pertinent to the discussion, at least a wee bit, is that new South Tower is on property owned by Hospital Parent Group. The old structure (North Tower) is on property owned by University. In fact, the original structure (it's been expanded, significantly expanded, over time and much of this during my tenure here) was once owned by University.

Hospital Parent Group already restricts certain aspects of Internet access. Specifically, such things as would not appear congruent with a facility dedicated to health, healing, trauma and cancer care, etc. So I can not, for example, go web surfing to the sites of either firearm manufacturers or sellers. I can surf to sights which provide information about firearms such as ballistics, calibre, tissue damage from bullets, and such. That latter is, after all, part of treating trauma.

Inside of Hospital, and even inside of the University Health Science Center has been 'smoke free' for a decade or so now. You want to smoke? You go outside to designated smoking areas. Inpatient, outpatient, visitor, employee, you go outside to the designated smoking areas. Part of the reason the limits extended only to the doors is University did not commit (other than here at the Health Science Center) to smoke-free.

As of Day One Opening of the new South Tower, Hospital (BOTH buildings), University Health Science Center, and the campus grounds around them will be tobacco-free.

You want to smoke or chew? Head a half-mile (more, actually) up the road.

Oh, there will be means and interventions for those patients who need; these will not include smoking or chewing or snuff.

Apparently, University will be promoting a tobacco-free campus elsewhere by a specified date next year. We here at the Health Care Places will start earlier.

About. Damn. Time.

And now, I go home.

Late Start

I'm getting a late start this morning. It's only a late start because I'm hoping/planning on going somewhere today. Even with those plans, I'm not 'late' yet, but I still need to start feeding the Ranch. Been on a short leash to the porcelan seat. Started yesterday evening while praparing to head out to Las Avinas, a local Mexican restaurant. Saturday nights, a local trio plays there. The young lady singing has a beautiful voice, clear soprano, and the trio is made up of her, her mother & stepdad. And hey, they're locals and it's folk music.

But before heading out the door the strong desire to sit upon the porcelan seat came upon me, and lo there was... a need. Up several times through the night for the same. I suspect one of two sources for this, either the delightful leftovers of Friday evening or the coffee machine. Can't do anything about the leftovers except wait it out, see if it's passed (literally). The coffee machine sat all week since Herself's been gone. No need really to make coffee at home for only one. It was rinsed out, but not washed out and all the leftover oils may of grown something. I don't know what, but that's the only other possibility.

There are times when being unable to smell particularly well can be a problem.

Got up way too early this morning. Mind you, I got up the usual time. Even thought I was leaving late (not going to be late, but later than I normally roll) for work. Then, right after turning off our road onto the paved road, had a Homer Experience.

Doh! Today is my day for my 50-something fasting blood work draw. Need to be at my GP's office at 08:45, not the Hospital at 0Dark:Something. Turned around, went back home, checked in here for kicks and grins, gonna go read a book for a bit before heading out again.

Sheesh. And I'd even made sure to tell them at Hospital I'd be late this morning because...

It's been a week between postings; I've commented in a few places, but not written anything as to the state of the Mad Shutter-bug. Several reasons, but it can boil down to same-old same-old.

Back: still sore, still stiff, getting better. I'm still rather voluntarily than under medical advice limiting my lifting; right around 20 Kg/40 Lb (plus-minus) is the current point where the back says, Um, no. I'm quite literally to a point that I feel if I could stretch far enough, the one vertebrae slightly out of line would line back up and I'd feel a lot better.

Work: has been interesting in the way of that limited lifting; working the computer support side no big worries, in fact I need to get up every couple hours or so to either stretch or walk a bit. No one's complained at me for refusing to lift patients, sort of surprising. Busy overall. Friday was the first day of the new resident year... and went by without a hitch. I suspect a lot more had to do with it being the last day before a holiday weekend than that this year's crew of new residents are that much better. I'm expecting Tuesday to be more along normal July lines on that count.

Haven't been on-line a lot at home on the dial-up, nor carrying the laptop to work with me. Which made for a mildly frustrating week trying to get an upgrade installation of McAfee up and running. There's always that need to update the anti-virus dat files, and now there's an anti-spam module that wants its update. For some reason, the downloads were freezing up. On my wunnerful 26.4 high-speed dial-up, it's hard to tell sometimes if the process is simply trundling along... or frozen. *sigh*

However, it seems to be sorted out now, and the update downloads are simply taking their annoyingly longish times on dial-up. I've been so spoiled by T-100 lines at hospital.

Mary Kitty is settling in after her great adventure trip from Mother Mary's house to KP Ranch. She is an elder cat (at least 13 years old), and has the Four Kittens of the Apocalypse terrified. RasMewSon is courting her (despite her plumbing being broken years ago), and seems confused that his suave, gentlemanly approach is earning him paw-slaps across the face. However, he and Mary Kitty have worked out their groundwork and are getting along.

That is the week that was. Happy July 4th to those who celebrate that holiday. Mamma Munch prefers not to; fireworks apparently sound too much like the Sky Grumbles to her.
