Up early today, somewhat in anticipation. Then again I'd gone to bed early yesterday after a bit of work on the Ranch and being tired, so that may be part of it. At any rate, a light fog this morning, would of been quite nice for photography excepting there waited a wee bit more house straightening to finish before our guests from Birmingham arrived. Quite nearly succeeded in that. Was just finishing wiping down the sink in lavatory when I heard a cheerful "Hello" from just outside the door. Of the house, that is. Lavatory is just inside the side door of the house.

Kitchen cleanup is first stage done (i.e. the first round of dishes are in the dishwasher and running; second load waits until first is done, of course). I'm here rather than watching the Tube. Time to go read some other things.

All my troubles seemed...

After all, received a phone call from our friends from the UK who are in nearby Orlando on holiday; they'll be coming up to the Ranch this coming weekend for Easter Dinner. We may be running down one evening this week (probably Friday, if so) to meet them for dinner as well.

[livejournal.com profile] mini_fred is bugging me to help him post some more photos from the DC trip; he keeps muttering at Herself when something else gets added to the "Honey Do" list. Get in line, [livejournal.com profile] mini_fred. I've more photos of my own that are looking for a place to live on the Internet as well.

Coffee is consumed. Life is good. That is all.

Went on a brief walk about with [livejournal.com profile] mini_fred on Friday after packing checking out and checking the bags with the bell captain, as we also needed to wait for [livejournal.com profile] canuckdesz to finish up with work for the day. Mini-Fred tells that story better than I can, so go visit his blog. Met up later with both [livejournal.com profile] canuckdesz and [livejournal.com profile] capntypo, we had pizza for dinner and then went over to see the WW 2 Memorial after dark. Again, Mini-Fred tells you about that.

Then we headed out of town and crashed at [livejournal.com profile] canuckdesz's place. Saturday after a bit of a liesurely wake-up [livejournal.com profile] canuckdesz and I set off with Mini-Fred to the Washington Zoo and some fun adventures. We saw long-legged wolves, lions, pandas, elephants, tigers, beavers, and yes, otters. The less I say about that last, the better. When we finished up there at lunch time we stopped for burritos at Chipotle's oooo yum. Then onto the Metro for Arlington National Cememtary.

Went past the Tomb of the Unknown, arriving just in time for the 15:00 Changing of the Guard, and not one but two wreath-laying ceremonies. Wandered over to pay our respects to John F. Kennedy, then over to see the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial, just outside Arlington to the west. That site is under some big renovation work, closed off by the traditional high chain-link fencing. So I'll need to come back and visit it again on another occasion.

From there we headed back to the house, started to upload photos from the day, and got a phone call from [livejournal.com profile] marjai. She, [livejournal.com profile] madpuppy, and Bean were inbound and suggested we meet someplace for dinner, so we wouldn't need to leave the house again after everyone arrived. Thinking that an excellent suggestion, I wrapped up the upload, and we headed out to Chili's where we also met up with [livejournal.com profile] capntypo.

Good visit, great time.

Today we collaborated on some artwork. I'm not quite ready to upload copies, but they are coming soon. Suffice it to say, [livejournal.com profile] canuckdesz contributed painting, [livejournal.com profile] marjai contributed canvas and modelling, and I contributed photography. We're all pretty happy with the results just now. They've headed back home, and we're about to set up for dinner tonight.

Tomorrow I will either spend a rest day, getting ahead on some of the photography from the weekend and packing up for the trip home, or I will try to head into town to do a bit more photography. We'll see.

I had the great pleasure of dining with [livejournal.com profile] starcat_jewel this evening. We opted for ease of finding a place and ate at the Mexican restaurant here at the Wyndham. It's excellent food, and I'm blanking on the Spanish names for our entree's. It boils down to surf and turf for myself (steak and grilled shrimp), and pork chops. This, however, does not do them justice. Nor the company.

I find it a wonder-ful thing, this meeting people through virtual world correspondance and then getting together in the physical world. One of the questions I was asked is did appearance match expectations. My answer is yes, with the qualification that details were not part of my expectation. Height, size, accoutrements such as eyeglasses, all things surmised from LJ icons (constructed avatars in this case) and comments in passing. On the other hand, camera angles apparently affected the reciprical.

So now I'm sending along safe home thoughts for the journey back to Houston; and again, I'm particularly impressed that she came. I'd underestimated the Houston-Dallas trip duration by half.

As for the remainder of the day, it was a seminar. Topics of interest to myself, related to what I do to earn the daily bread. Feel free to ask, but I doubt the intricacies of working with an information management system that records patient care is of interest outside the specific circles.

Tomorrow I shall do my little bit of theatre, contributing to the overall exchange of knowledge, thus justifying the "Combined Knowledge Summit" name of the event.

This brought on by various entries regarding the NaNo write-in thingie, and editors, and such.

Once I had a good friend who did get paid for putting words on paper. He never claimed to be a writer. "I'm a word mechanic," he said, "I'm only interested in getting paid so I can go fly."

He was a damn good word mechanic. Enough people bought his words instead of beer that he could go fly.

Laptop now says it has a full battery charge. I suppose tomorrow I'll test it out, but I'll wait until I'm on the aircraft if I'm going to go there.

Meanwhile, tonight's culinary adventures included a meeting with [livejournal.com profile] janetmiles and her husband. Wonderful company and conversation, though I suspect J got me talking about myself rather more than I intended (wanted to share the spotlight there *G*).

Quaker Steak and Lube the name of the place, and there's evidently one in Clearwater. My meal tonight, a Philadelphia Steak Salad, beef done medium rare and a Cajun Blue Cheese dressing. Large portions; I couldn't finish mine though I gave it a valiant effort. I'll definitely be checking out the one in Clearwater some time when I head down there to visit [livejournal.com profile] fatfred.

Right now, time to pack as much as possible tonight, because tomorrow morning is check out on the way to class. We leave from the HQ around 13:00 to head home. Classes went well, with a mixture of new items in the software and feedback into the training process. It's a new upgrade release that we've been the Beta site for, and the other groups are putting into place as an upgrade a bit after we've gone live with the version. So these sessions are as much about setting up the training programs and materials for future implementations as teaching us about the new features.

[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] posted this one recently, and I bit. *G* As I mentioned there, considering I've just returned from a jaunt there, and considering (as a photographer) I really, really like the light there...

You're Colorado!

You really enjoy getting high. Even though it's often a lot of work, the
view from the top is almost always worth the effort. Your distance from others makes
your relationship with them rather rocky at times, but they do look up to you. Be very
careful around schools. And stop being quite so focused on the number 5,280!

Take the State Quiz
at the Blue Pyramid.

Though I wll say, there was at least one question which truly needed to include both answers. Particularly since quite a few of the restaurants in the Denver area feature both on their menues: Do I prefer Surf, or Turf? For myself, the answer really needs to be Both. Makes me wonder what the outcome would be if I'd selected the opposite.

Set off down the highway yesterday late morning to visit [personal profile] fatfred and [profile] singingnettle along Baja Georgia's scenic seashore... well sort of. East Indian lunch, some time visiting and looking at photos, then [personal profile] fatfred chased us out of the house in a lull between rain bands to go make photographs at the seashore. Little place called Maximo Park, right at the tip of the penninsula, just off of the highway to the Skyway bridge.

Some interesting photos out of this. More on that later.

Much visiting and some food porn for dinner, more visiting after that. Headed home today just shy of noon, arrived about three hours later after stops to fill the car and purchase some needed groceries for home and more food porn for this evening.

Time to go see the Border Collie Bros.
