madshutterbug: (c)2009 by Myself (Expostulation)

Laptop now says it has a full battery charge. I suppose tomorrow I'll test it out, but I'll wait until I'm on the aircraft if I'm going to go there.

Meanwhile, tonight's culinary adventures included a meeting with [livejournal.com profile] janetmiles and her husband. Wonderful company and conversation, though I suspect J got me talking about myself rather more than I intended (wanted to share the spotlight there *G*).

Quaker Steak and Lube the name of the place, and there's evidently one in Clearwater. My meal tonight, a Philadelphia Steak Salad, beef done medium rare and a Cajun Blue Cheese dressing. Large portions; I couldn't finish mine though I gave it a valiant effort. I'll definitely be checking out the one in Clearwater some time when I head down there to visit [livejournal.com profile] fatfred.

Right now, time to pack as much as possible tonight, because tomorrow morning is check out on the way to class. We leave from the HQ around 13:00 to head home. Classes went well, with a mixture of new items in the software and feedback into the training process. It's a new upgrade release that we've been the Beta site for, and the other groups are putting into place as an upgrade a bit after we've gone live with the version. So these sessions are as much about setting up the training programs and materials for future implementations as teaching us about the new features.

Have checked the battery; received another suggestion for the same thing. Didn't see signs of corrosion, did see some signs of use (markings on the contact where they slide together). We'll see; it's an old box and an old battery.

They just don't make 'em like they used too... or something. *G*

my laptop is about 6mos old. Once home after my last visit to Hoggetown, the battery was flat dead and wouldn't charge. Took it to the store where I bought it. The tech pulled the battery out, checked the leads, resat the battery, and when he plugged the unit it, it started charging just fine.

I can only guess that something shifted during travel. May not have anything to do with age.

...not that any excuse for a new pc is a bad excuse? :)

I just haven't tested the unit working on battery yet. On the one hand, it showed nearly a full charge yesterday when it shut down. On the other hand, I've also not run the battery utility for ages; I know it's getting old. On the Gripping Hand, the age of this laptop is an issue. There's no more room for expansion, and I need to review what software is loaded to run in the background, because at times it works really slow.

I recall finding replacement batteries through the Gateway web site, but I'm not sure if paying that amount is worth it for this old of a laptop. We'll see. I'm making a list of my requirements now. Optimal will be a desktop which I can dedicate to my photography/graphics work and (realistically) on which I'll also do other work, and a much smaller, lighter laptop or tablet for travel.

You're welcome, and thank you, and the pleasure is definitely mutual. I'd claim it's all mine but that might be greedy.

Steak with blue cheese dressing...*sigh.* I used to be able to eat things like that and now it would make my gallbladder fall out.

Maybe that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.

It wouldn't be a bad thing if gallbladders could fall out. Unfortunately, someone would probably need to go in there after it while it ravaged around like a '50's B movie monster.
