I nicked this from [livejournal.com profile] thaddeusfavour. This time. I've played this meme before, and it can be interesting. I thought it would be fun to see what she'd pick because she's relatively new to reading the Chaos. Play if you want, skip if you want. Take a look at my icon answers anyway.

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee. Whoo!

So these are the five [livejournal.com profile] thaddeusfavour wants to know about.

"Attitude"

I'm a big fan of the first Blues Brothers' movie; lesser so of the second, though it's OK. The first one, though, is just downright fun, not to mention some fairly good music. Now, (timely, as it's coming up next week) each year at the trade show for my AORN meeting, one of the companies (market's light sources & fibreoptic headlights for surgery) either hires local talent or has some of their employees dress up (usually in the theme for the year) and one may get their picture taken with them. They've used Polaroid, probably switching this year to digital since Polaroid is Out Of Business. Anyway, in 2003 we went to Chicago. The Blues Brothers were there for this schtick. I was on a mission.

"Friend of Zompus"

[livejournal.com profile] zompus you will find on my reading list (LJ calls it the Friends List). [livejournal.com profile] wedschilde made this icon for a group of us who know [livejournal.com profile] zompus early on in the getting to know each other. Why, you ask? I'm glad you did. See, there's this Ottar, Fat Fred who was being confused by some people with [livejournal.com profile] zompus because, you see, [livejournal.com profile] zompus other name (one of them) happens to be... Fred.

"Ofuroyama"

Kawauso Ofuroyama, Zen Master, former professional sumo wrestler, budoka, baseball fan, Ottar. Member of the [livejournal.com profile] ottarz_mob, he's currently living at Teh Ranch with [livejournal.com profile] popperaussie, Dredd Phredd, and a few other transients. He's a pleasant fellow, used this icon when he borrowed my LJ to post things. However, he's set up his own place now.

"Chanoyu"

This is a view through the moon window of the waiting pavilion in the Japanese (Zen) Garden, Nelson, South Island, New Zealand. Chanoyu is what most non-Japanese call Tea Ceremony; tea gardens all provide a place to wait (garden to be greeted by one's host before going on to the chashitsu. Therefor, it is a place to relax, meditate, and appreciate the garden.

"Meditation"
This one comes from some studio work where we explored lighting for silhouette. A series of the poses were looking at various meditation positions, primarily from yoga though they may be used in any seated meditation discipline. The lights were placed between the model and the background, one each off to each side of the model. Mostly I consider it a successful photograph, even though the silhouette isn't stark. Primarily because the photograph works, and all of it contributed to learning and understanding lighting in studio.

Of these five icons, except as noted they are all my own photography.

I'll play.

I like your photography, by the way, in case I haven't mentioned that before.

And thank you. I believe you did mention that, yes. However, I don't think I'll discourage you mentioning it again. *G*

I don't feel up to writing a whole post and managing the images, so I'm just going to respond here.

"blinding light of competence" -- this is a quote from one of Lois McMaster Bujold's books about Miles Vorkosigan, and it's Miles speaking. I picked it up on the [livejournal.com profile] lmbujold community. It's my current default, because I've been feeling kind of average lately, and I know I've done better in the past.

"and your point" -- I'm pretty sure this was a quiz result. I've watched some episodes of Daria, and I really enjoy her deadpan, cynical view of the world.

"Shay" -- one of [livejournal.com profile] bkwrrm_tx's friends created that icon. A number of us used it in our comments to her while her daughter Shay was dying (final relapse from childhood leukemia). Shay beat the odds pretty damn well -- her first episode was at age four, she made it through four remissions thanks to combinations of chemo, radiation, and bone marrow transplants, and held out until just after her 21st birthday. As Dale put it, she couldn't outrun Death, but she made the bastard work for it.

otter-and-paw -- this is the second of my "otter" icons, to be used when speaking for or about Luis. This one is for "oops" moments. I found it on a royalty-free photography site.

clover -- generic Celtic icon created by my friend [livejournal.com profile] danaewhispering. Will be used to represent Celts, luck, fortune, wishing good luck to people, that sort of thing.
