Regarding the whole thing about Live Journal's owners 'doing away with' Basic accounts, I believe this word will say it all.

It's a business; nice that they were offering free basic accounts at one point (it's how I got started). Nice that they then also offered a Plus account, with more features and 'free' but there would be ads. Nice that they offer Paid accounts, and the ads can then 'go away'. Still nice that existing Basic accounts are 'grandfathered' so we can still natter back and fort.
