Quick daytrip to O-town yesterday for a regional conference hosted by Major Software Vendor which we use at Hospital. Worth the trip for one conversation with another person at another hospital using Major Software Vendor's product... and a project which we are beginning to implement here.

Also worth the trip for two meals. Well, at least one, but I didn't need to pay for either of them. Lunch was OK. Dinner was...

Sashimi! Oh my yes. We were hosted by Major Software Vendor at Amura on Church Street. Most people ordered sushi but my leanings for the day moved in the direction of Protein High, Baby. Tuna, salmon, octopus, redfin, and three others I recognise but don't recall the names of graced my plate. Fresh wasabi! Fresh pickled ginger! And yes, the getting the raw fish without the pickled rice raised a couple eyebrows, but only a couple.

People were much more interested in one of the other members of the party, who ordered a total of 55 pieces of sushi. He took a mere 10 of them away from the restaurant, consuming all the rest before our eyes. Impressive.

Back to work today.

The sole flaw in my favorite sushi restaurant here is that they don't make inari. I do so loves inari.

What does one do if the sponsored, management-paid dinner is at a place where one can't possibly expect to find anything to EAT? I know that in this case, management thought it was doing something high-status and Really Cool, but... ew. And I can think of other situations where such a thing might apply, for example a Jewish participant and lunch at Bob Evans (which my Jewish friends tell me is often affectionately called "the Monument to Traifdom", as it is nearly impossible to order anything there which does not contain pork!).

That is an interesting question. Now, in this instance not being able to order is probably more due to personal health (as in food allergies) than dietary. And there are multiple vegetarian options when ordering sushi.

But that is an interesting question.

Vegetarian options aren't necessarily an improvement in the case of me vs. sushi; I greatly prefer my veggies cooked, and pickled rice, also ew. Was there just plain Chinese food available -- a buffet or something? That would probably have handled the issue.

Not a buffet, no. The menu does contain other choices than sushi and sashimi. Other traditional Japanese dishes, as well as versions of American dishes.

SASHIMI!!! When you come visit I gotta take you to Kawasemi's down the road. Its a really yummy family run japanese bistro almost with some of the BEST sushi and sashimi, along with hot dishes you will EVER taste.
