Yesterday was StayLate at Hospital. Regular readers know the rest of this. I Stayed Late. Today legs are tired & achy. Tuesday was Camera Club, which involves getting home from work, turning around the Ranch chores moderately quickly then off to City for dinner and meeting. Dinner is on our own, not with the Club. Both ways, not much reading of blog for two days now.

I am planning a variation on that poll process with the Pic'o'Day for audience participation. Will probably implement today, simply because today is off from Hospital (working Saturday) so I'll have time later. Fairly simple in concept actually. The following is quoted from Club Competition Manual:

Technical Quality, Impact and Composition. This is a standard judging method often referred to as TIC.

Technical elements include (but are not limited to); lighting, focus, use of depth-of-field, exposure, color or tonal contrast, appropriate backgrounds, lack of distracting elements and the presentation of the image in print.

Impact elements include (but are not limited to); A strong first impression, the pictures ability to command the viewers attention, emotion, sensory stimulation, a new imaginative approach, and whether the subject matter is made more interesting by the photographer.

Composition elements include (but are not limited to): the placement of the subject matter, dynamic symmetry, rhythm or repetition, definition and strength to the center of interest, balance, simplicity, framing, texture, and pattern.

The judge(s) will assign a numerical score from 1 to 9 in each of the three judging categories. The values of the scores can be interpreted as below or the judge may apply his own method.

1 to 5 Below Average
6 Average
7 Above Average
8 Superior
9 Outstanding

So the concept is, the Pic'o'Day is displayed and the poll underneath consists of three questions, Technical Elements, Impact and Composition. The answers will be radio button numbers, 1 through 9 (no multiple choice on values). Y'all then get to practice Judging a Photo.

Don't worry, there will be a gratuitous offering of Ticky Boxes.

Just now, though, it's time to go Feed teh Ranch.

Might be complicated by the fact that Flickr has now provided a New! Improved! viewing page. The process I've been using to post Pic'o'Day photos used an option available to me on Flickr to 'View All Sizes' which then allowed me to pick the size I wanted to view, and provided the html coding to display that size photo as the required link back to Flickr. The required link back is in the Flickr user agreement. The photos posted elsewhere must refer back to Flickr, eh?

However, the New! Improved! View All Sizes does not provide this handy html coding as it currently displays. Maybe this is upgrade bug not worked out, maybe this is Flickr limiting how their users may display their own work elsewhere than Flickr. Maybe it is browser specific, and Flickr simply doesn't like Google Chrome. I've only looked at the new layout using Chrome, so far.

However, we shall see what we may do, using the previous postings as an example to code the picture to be posted.

As of today, two days after the meeting, I still don't know how this one rated because the score sheets are not published to the NCFPC web site yet. I do have other news to report, but we're going to go right on to the test of the poll, providing you the viewer with the ability to 'judge' this photo... I hope. If it works, though, I may put the poll behind a cut as well during future Pic'o'Day posts. And, I expect this won't be a daily thing (the poll) as it took ... well, not hours but some time to generate the poll and the pic links and such.

I've been cross-posting Pic'o'Day postings, starting here and crossing to LJ. However, the source host, Flickr, has made the whole process a bit more time-consuming with a Shiny! New! Improved! viewing page. I've verified the process used today (not crossposted, because over on LJ there's a poll involved and I'm still unable to submit polls here) works on LJ. It will probably work here as well, as a picture poll.

On another level, it's got me thinking harder about obtaining my own domain and hosting my own photos...
