Houdini woke me this morning near 'normal' time, at least for the work-week. However, not to discourage him as he needed a constitutional, we got up and headed out. Standing there while he took care of business, I thought to myself it didn't get quite as cold as forecast...

And it did not.

Here's the gig, though:
-1°C (30°F) Feels Like -6°C (21°F) and yes, there is a good brisk breeze out, experienced during Houdinis morning constitutional at 05:45 (thank you for waking me, Houdini).
High today 7° C (44° F) AM Clouds / PM Sun
Low tonigh -6° C (21° F)
Chance of precipitation 20% dropping to 0%

I went looking for a particular photo to post, discovering that while once it was on-line somewhere it is not currently. So I opted to skip that aspect of life today. Possibly later. For now, hot coffee and company of a Best Friend.

Of Course

Houdini and I finished Morning Rounds long enough ago for me to come back inside and eat a light breakfast. It is indeed at least as cold as the proverbial Wiccan Mammaries out there; the thermometers I keep in shaded areas (exposure to direct sunlight in North Central Baja Jorja summers leads to disfunctional thermometers) both indicate that the temperature is 0 C/32 F. The 5 degree C wind chill is truly in effect.

So of course one of the adolescent does kidded this morning. Both kids are now in the shelter, one she dropped there, one just outside. I gave her some time with that kid before going into the pen, at which point she promptly ran off to eat with the rest of the adolescent herd. Mind you, there is a feed pan in the shelter with her... At any rate, all I did do with the second kid is move him (is a buckling) into the shelter next to his sister and leave them alone. Minimal touch or scent from me, to give this youngster as good a chance at bonding as I can.

We're still overcast here. Further south is the precipitation, though we could get some. That overcast is mixed blessing right now. It's why we didn't get as cold last night as forecast (though we tried). It's also why we aren't budging very fast towards warmer, and trust me at this point even something around 5 C/40's F is warmer.

A Day

We're now seeing sunlight, came through the cloud cover probably a couple hours ago. What clouds we've got are also very high. Now I'm believing that we'll get cold cold cold tonight. Houdini and I are spending a fair amount of time outside, tanking up our bottle-kid and checking on those two new kids.

They aren't going to make it. One already hasn't. Too cold, too cold.

Between outdoors time, we've been cleaning off the desk in home office. I also brought over the keyboard from the office in Studio. No heat over there, other than the space heaters, and I'm not running those to keep the place warm enough to work at a desk. Enough to keep the interior above freezing, yes. As in one degree or so above freezing, in the main portion of the Studio.

Reason for bringing the keyboard over here is really because I want to hook up my new monitor. That requires re-arranging the desk, and I'm not sure if it will be easier to leave the Laptop connected to external monitor and keyboard like a significantly slender desktop PC or otherwise.

And even as it is set up, I will probably shift things around. Laptop is able to treat two monitors as a wonderfully flexible setup, with different resolutions on each monitor (Laptop's built-in and External). This is a marvelous setup for working on photographs, as a lot of applications allow placing toolbars and such on the second monitor and expanding the image view to the full screen of the larger monitor. Thing is, Monitor 1 is the built-in, and Monitor 2 is the external, and it's off to the 'right' of Monitor 1. Which makes things quite odd when Monitor 2 is physically located to the left of Laptop.

Zip that mouse cursor wayyyyy to the right and lo, it appears suddenly to the left...
