Big. Little. Life...
Jan. 18th, 2009 08:37 amQuiet day yesterday, mostly. Well, lots of mostly. Up after getting to sleep in. Hmm... let's back up a bit more.
Friday evening, off work on time, stop at two stores for supplies and some groceries, then home. Home to help feed and hay, to stoke up everyone's furnace, and then into the house. Cold. Temperature dropping rapidly after the sun went down. We found frost and ice on water troughs in the morning when we went out, and as stated we slept in.
So, it was getting not 10:30, 11:00 in the morning before we went out. Squrrl and Houdini made rounds with us, everyone present and accounted for. Then we did some inventory and measurements in Studio for additional shelving in the storage room (formerly my 'study' when we lived in that one, and before that a bedroom). Houdini wasn't happy when I headed into town and he didn't get a ride. Oh well, he will today.
Looked at shelving for Plan A at Lowe's. Plan A involved the wire shelving, currently made by Rubbermaid, mounted directly to the wall. I've used this plan, or we've used this plan, in four different locations now. Herself's Cottage has this for the fabric storage, my Office in Big House uses this system for the desk/shelving, and Herself's is being converted to this in the same room. Also, the office/workroom in Studio uses this system. And the first set of new shelving in the Studio room is the same. Supports an incredible amount of weight, particularly if one 'overbuilds' it by putting the brackets on every stud in the wall (16" rather than the 32" the company recommends).
We'd also purchased from Sam's Club about five months ago one of the stainless steel wire shelf units, the kind you'll see in food service and other locations. This one can be done either as one unit, six feet/two metres tall with six shelves and casters for mobility, or as two units, each about three feet/one metre tall with three shelves (or so). So I priced the equivalent of this at Lowe's as well (five shelf unit, no casters, add-on kit additional $$), and the wall-mount, and then drove over to Sam's to see about these kits.
Less expense to purchase two more kits, then either the two prices at Lowe's. So today we'll unload and assemble the shelving.
Also moved one of our older does into Hospital/Adolescent Pen. She's labouring, the Winter Kidding. Want to keep an eye one her because of her age. Did OK up to our heading to bed; I think Herself may have gone out to check again during the night, but can't ask Herself because she's still asleep.
Met a Cairn Terrorist at Lowe's, riding about in a shopping cart. Thought of somebody on my FList when I met him. *G* And all day long, even though I'd cheated and watched the weather forecast on the Tube, I kept thinking what a lovely day for some friend wedding! Absolutely lovely.
