A Great Day

Down to the sea and ships, or at least the bay and the Maritime Museum here. Many photographs made, some which will provide both images for me and background research for a friend. Four vessels visited, two steam, two sail.

While down by the ocean/bay and the ships, fulfilled a personal pilgrimage and a request from a friend. It's not private, you could track it down reading back through the LJ here. It is personal, though, so I'll simply say, All Messages Delivered.

Then up to a tall, tall balcony for more photographs...

Many thanks to the [livejournal.com profile] wedschilde for that last.

Off for lunch, then to check out the San Diego Zoo (since the Japanese Garden in Balboa Park is closed on Mondays). Alas! We arrived at 16:11 and the gates close at 16:00. Woe is me. I shall need to plan another trip to San Diego. To console self we wandered about the park, past the entry to the Japanese Garden and amongst the museums. Sakura are beginning to bloom in the valley of the Garden; some photos from up on the hill. Other things in bloom, all over.

We think they closed the gates at the Zoo and changed the hours of the Garden because of Popper. Though we aren't sure. It may not be him, it simply seems suspicious.

However, we did see koi. And squirrels. And street performers. And some excellent light.

Then back to The Cabin for rendevous and off to Nicolosi's for Italian... so much food! We all came home with left-overs. [livejournal.com profile] wedschilde insisted on ordering the meatballs for me. I will probably be attempting to take them on the airplane with me tomorrow.

Now... to pack.

Lunch at Golden City

Not Golden Dragon. Although it could be. Definitely good food, and lots of it. Lots. We needed lots, 10 of us sat to table. Big lazy susan on table. Big. Fried wantan. Fried tofu. Singapore noodles. Many vegi dishes. Yes, many. Shrimp with walnuts. Om nom nom nom.

Then we rounded up ottarz. They wanted to ride on the hood of Kasuge. No, really, they did. So we let them. Someone complained. I think they said we endangered a minor because of Chibi-Ottar. Hey, is ottars. No worries.

Cut for Image-ness and such )

The Cabin is stirring. People are watering themselves. I made coffee. One hopes it meets the standards of the Major Coffee Mavin living here. *G* We are slowly getting moving for Golden Dragon! More sumptuous food than I can shake chopsticks at! And the meeting of [livejournal.com profile] jehannamama et al. This is going to be another good day.

We probably didn't sleep enough again, though. [livejournal.com profile] zompus and [livejournal.com profile] goth_huntress Kick Major Ass at Guitar Hero. It's fun, but if one actually plays guitar that can interfere. I did... OK. On Easy. And Slow.

I am being stalked. Tam stalked me earlier. I think this time it's Neko because I've only caught glimpses of her...

Butcher Signing Sighting!

We rolled out the door in plenty time to be early, and a good thing that as the place filled up. I mean, standing room only. Copy of book waiting for us, thanks to both [livejournal.com profile] goth_huntress and [livejournal.com profile] wedschilde. Mysterious Galaxy is a very dangerous place. I walked out with far more books than I should of, except one of them is a gift for someone else.

At any rate, a copy of Terry Pratchett's Night Watch, Niven & Lerner's Fleet of Worlds, The Zombie Survival Guide, and of course Jim Butcher's new one, Small Favor. Oh, and a copy of their newsletter, but that's free. Felt pretty good with that as a limit when one of the staff at the store set in my hands World War Z.

They are evil there. Evil, I tell you.

And Introducing... Jim Butcher. Photos behind cut )

After a delightfully uneventful drive from LA to SD, we arrived safely and before midnight. Thus am I vindicated in my faith telling [livejournal.com profile] wedschilde we would do so... despite [livejournal.com profile] salamet's undoubted bad-traffic-fu.

Brought bags in and sat and schmoozed for a bit, catching up with odds and ends. Then off to feed the [livejournal.com profile] salamet. Well, and me. Tajima, no I couldn't find it again without looking it up. Stays open late and on three days a week after 10:30 PM serves ramen specialties... they make their own ramen. See [livejournal.com profile] zompus's comments here about parking and crowd, think I semi-forgot that for being slightly tired and enjoying ramen. Was crowded; popular place.

Ramen is a comfort food for me. On the other hand, I can't claim I've ever had anything other than commercial-made ramen, out of the packet. Don't very often use the 'flavour' packets that come with them, we usually use spices about the kitchen, and occasionally some other odd thought creeps into my head. Oh, and vegetables. Or chicken. Sometimes tuna out of a can (if you can believe that).

I got the spicey ramen, thick-cut noodles, and Tajima house soup broth. Yum! The standard bowl is a fairly good sized bowl, the spicey is indeed exactly that, not overbearing hot pepper but a great blend of spices waking up the tongue and leaving a gentle pleasant afterglow on the lips. This one included pork as a meat (Why, No, [livejournal.com profile] tassie_gal I didn't know this pig... ate it anyway *G*) and a soyu egg.

This got me through the rest of the night happy; though I'm starting to think it's time to go contemplate food again.

Jax is now rolling on the rug and snorting disgustedly. It's post-bath time, you see. Or maybe not, as he and I are the only ones in the room. Yes, damp dog on toes. Good morning.

Arrived Alive

Second leg of the trip, I'm On Vacation! Yes, I'm now officially on vacation. Life is rather nice. Picked up from the hotel by [livejournal.com profile] salamet, off to dinner with [livejournal.com profile] betnoir and Himself (most excellent Italian, happy toungue). Then down the Pacific Coast to SD, arrived in good time at The Cabin. [livejournal.com profile] wedschilde had predicted a later arrival. We fooled her.

Sitting now schmoozing with several and flat out enjoying life.

Tomorrow... Dresden! Butcher! Vacation is good.
