OK, y'all, someof you been clamouring for baby goat pictures. Well, follow the link to Flickr and ye shall receive. Right now (Jan 15, 2007) they're at the head of the FlickrStream, but you may also click on the Animal Portraits set for the group of them.

Well, a few pigs and a horse and Herself snuck into a few of those photos.

What wonderful photos! Of course from you they could be nothing else - but admittedly you had some exceptionally charming models!

I see you have a Junebug! My favorite Nubian I named Junebug. She was so smart!

Those kids are JUST PRECIOUS!!! My lord, I thought *I* was bad with all of my critters...how many animals do you have on the farm? Maybe I should be calling you Old McDonald:D

Eleven bovines: 3 heifers, 1 bull calf, 7 cows. Some of whom are due to become Beef this year. (This ain't a petting zoo!)

Thirty-six goats (counting kids)... no, wait, last night's goatmamma means 38 goats.

Five hogs, not counting the two piglets. They're too small to count, and SowMamma may still lay down on one or both. We will be in fresh pork soon, too.

Two horses.

Nine chickens... actually, four chickens, five roosters, but we have more roosters than chickens because Herself gathers cock feathers for sale at SCA. Also, that's temporary. Need to refurbish chicken accomodations and then the balance will shift again. Fresh Eggs!

Four border collies, seven Rodent Control Engineers aka cats.

Excellent pics! I want me one!

[identity profile] madshutterbug.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Which? A photograph, or a goat? Photographs are a lot easier to deal with, let me tell you.

[identity profile] tx-cronopio.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I've wanted a goat for years. But I know that the reality would probably not live up to the fantasy! Also, my landlady would not approve...

You're really good with a lens

[identity profile] firesmith.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Just don't let a goat eat'em!

Re: You're really good with a lens

[identity profile] madshutterbug.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, goats are very fussy about what they eat.

They will taste anything. But very fussy about what they eat.

Is it true that azaleas are poisonous to them?

Re: You're really good with a lens

[identity profile] bordercolliebrs.livejournal.com 2007-01-17 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, MrsBoss will not let the goats anywhere near azaleas and like we don't have many but there are some around us.
Squrrl

Pssst, don't tell Boss or MrsBoss I was here...

Baby goats!!! Wheee! It's a good morning when you get to look at pix of baby goats.

Call me weird, but I've always wanted to raise goats and llamas and stuff. As it is, I may have to settle on sneaking 2 or 3 laying hens into the far corner of my back yard near a patch of woods, hoping the little girls next door won't rat me out to the other neighbors.

What kind of goats are they?

[identity profile] bordercolliebrs.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that's a silly question. They are our kind of goats! We own them!
Squrrl

[identity profile] madshutterbug.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, Squrrl, they're our kind of goats. They're also 'Florida Scrub' i.e. cross between Nubian, French Alpine (hence the amount of black & white), and Pygmy.

[identity profile] tinne.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Neat-o! I saw the tall, leggy ones with sorta floppy ears, but then not on all and thought "Sort of Nubian", but the little grey look like Pygmies. That 'splains it. They must do well in the heat and humidity then.

PS: Bob passed the photos around to the ladies in his office amid squeals of, "OMIGOD, THEY ARE SO CUTE! CAN WE GET ONE FOR THE OFFICE??!!!"

[identity profile] madshutterbug.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Goat? Or photograph?

The Kids grow up and get edible bigger, you know. :-)

[identity profile] tinne.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Bob patiently reminded them of that fact 'o life and they still squealed, "WE DON"T CARE! WE WANT ONE! SO VERY, VERY CUTE!! BABY GOATS! BABY GOATS! BABY GOATS!!"

Or something to that effect. It was hard to tell.

[identity profile] bordercolliebrs.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You're gonna get some DirtyYardBirds? That's cool.
Smudge

[identity profile] tinne.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Jett the Aussie sez:

"If I'm very, very good, Mummy may let me have DirtyYardBirds AND TeenyTinyPygmyGoats to herd, serve and protect from TehEvilCats!"

[identity profile] tinne.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi. 'Dis is me, Jett. Named in honor of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts by my Daddy, for some strange reason. I am not actually Down Undah from Australia as most think of us Shepherds. Some doofus sheep herder in the Southwest wasn't there the day they taught geography and mixed up "Australian" with "Austrian".

Anyway. I was rescued from the Da Thug Life on the streets of St. Petersburg and brought to a happy land in Palm Harbor with a fenced-in acre yard; multiple trespassing cats to chase and balls to catch but alas, no goats to herd. However, I have my own backpack for the trail when my masters go camping. So it's all good.

Houdini: Hey, D00d, glad to meet you!
Smudge: What's up, Jett.
Squrrl: Wow, you mean you live in the City? Mamma Mudge and Houdini went to the City, and they say there are lots and lots and lots of people and growliebeasts. We don't get many trespassing cats here, we've got our own. But we got lots of teh eveel squrils! Rodent Terrorists!
