Briefly

I think the Houdini may be interpreting instructions a bit too literally. Considering his history of wandering off on solo adventures periodically, I usually tell him when prepping to leave for Bospital (amongst other things) to 'stick around here.' And usually this is in the bedroom.

The past couple of work days Herself tells me He stays there all day until shortly before I am due home or he hears the car...

As in: Boss told me to stick around here.

Oh, the poor guy. He could take a lesson from mine, who knows that "stay here" means pretend to wait until I'm out of earshot, then get up on the couch.

i love houdini but you have to admit, he's rather literal.

He got his name for being an escape artist & wandering off. We actually think he's pouting because 'Boss goes away' as this most often happens after weekends or other days off, as in BossStaysHomeDays.

Or not.

Stay here. So I do. I don't see the problem. Boss is happy when he gets home and I'm there.

Could this be a reaction to the sandpitbull?

No, don't think so. Behaviour pre-dates arrival of Sandpit.
