Yes, the backup is stronger than 200w/350VA, it's this one:

Need to look closer at the rest of the specs. Also, per your comment below, OH, YES we're on dial-up. North Central Baja Jorja Rural OLD phone line dial up. And this is the route I suspect, because it turns out some time when moving things about Herself bypassed the surge protector for the phone line. ::sighs

I suspect the power supply is OK, or probably, because the major cooling fan comes on when the power button is pushed. Under normal operating routine, it will start strong then wind down a bit as the start-up current stabalises and the CPU begins processing. Now, it just spins up and stays a max RPM, and as mentioned nothing comes up on display. I think the hard drive is spinning up, based on sound/touch.

Will be looking for a local place for further diagnostics today, most probably.
